Supporting India Flood Relief

Abbott and its foundation, the Abbott Fund, are providing more than $300,000 (Rs. 2 crores) in grants and healthcare products to help deliver immediate relief following the devastating flooding in India's southwestern state of Kerala.

The Abbott Fund is providing $150,000 (Rs. 1 crore) to Americares and $150,000 (Rs. 1 crore) to the global humanitarian organization CARE to support relief efforts coordinated by Americares India and CARE India in Kerala. This funding will be used to provide needed medical and hygiene supplies, mosquito nets and water treatment kits to affected families. Abbott also is providing donations of medicines and vitamins in India through Americares India.

"Our thoughts are with the many families affected by the flooding in Kerala," said Jawed Zia, vice president, Established Pharmaceuticals, India, Abbott. "We're working together with our longstanding relief organization partners to help meet immediate needs on the ground in affected communities."

As part of its commitment to helping people build better lives and stronger communities, Abbott has a long history of providing humanitarian relief around the world. Over the past decade, Abbott and its foundation the Abbott Fund have provided nearly $50 million in funding and products to help meet both immediate needs and support long-term recovery efforts. In recent years, this included a rapid response to earthquakes in Chile, China, Haiti, Mexico and Nepal, typhoons and flooding in India, the Philippines and Vietnam, and hurricanes in the U.S. and the Caribbean.
